The work consists of four chairs and an installation. When the observer approaches, smoke is generated inside the installation and the wipers on the outside of the installation oscillate faster. The four identical chairs offer the viewer the possibility of participation.
On 13 April 2021, the Japanese government's decision to discharge nuclear wastewater into the sea caused an international uproar. At the same time, the media found that Greta Thunberg, a Swedish "environmental girl" who has become famous in recent years, was ambiguous about the issue, and only retweeted a relevant message on Twitter. Why is Thunberg, who has raised the banner of environmental protection, silent this time?If we dig deeper, what is behind this?
By exploring the complex relationship between the environment and politics in this work, the author hopes to create a thought-provoking scenario: how do the environment and politics interact to shape our society/world?
International relations and environmental diplomacy:
The attitudes of different countries towards different environmental events show that environmental issues are becoming a tool or a point of contention in politics&diplomacy.
Public participation and transparency of information:
The occurrence of major environmental incidents also highlights whether there is a correlation between public participation and the transparency of governmental public information when dealing with environmental issues. (Inadequate public discussion and disclosure of information can lead to distrust and scepticism of government).
